Chapter 3 Discussions Questions:

1. If you had been Martha, how would Jesus’ words have made you feel?

I would have felt like Jesus did not appreciate what I was doing for him. Although seeing it now and reading the story, I understand that Jesus was trying to get Mary to see that there are more important things and that worrying is not going to help the situation.

2. Which of the ten signs of a big worrier on page 33 do you struggle with? How do worry and anxiety spill over into your daily life and affect your behavior? your physical health?

I would say the #7 is one of my signs. I don't worry a lot, but when I do, it puts a strain on me. It can cause my day to be bad and stress me out completely so that my mood is also affected. I am one that will have muscles aches in the neck and back area from worrying too much and becoming tense.

3. Finish this sentence: Therefore Johnny, I tell you do not worry about being perfect or a perfectionist.

1. If you had been Martha, how would Jesus’ words have made you feel?

I would have felt disappointed that Jesus did not understand that I was trying to do something good for him. I now understand, but at the time I would have been disappointed.

2.Which of the ten signs of a big worrier on page 33 do you struggle with? How do worry and anxiety spill over into your daily life and affect your behavior? your physical health?

I know when I get stressed it spills over onto my family and I can't sleep at night because it becomes all consuming. It really helps if I get up and read something spiritual and it starts to calm me down.

3.Finish this sentence: Therefore Kathy, I tell you do not worry about financial problems. God takes care of even the birds in the sky, he will take care of me too.

Jesus' words would have stopped me in my tracks. There is just no rebuttal for that, especially in a culture where women served or ministered to others.

Number 3 used to be my life's theme. I would also cross my fingers and wish upon the 1st bright star of the evening. But that was before I knew God intimately - now prayers replace worries and wishes.

3. Therefore Julie, I tell you not to worry about the choices of others - especially loved ones.

1. If you had been Martha, how would Jesus’ words have made you feel?

I think I would've been hurt and felt a bit humiliated. As others have mentioned, today I understand it but at one time I would've been hurt.

2. Which of the ten signs of a big worrier on page 33 do you struggle with? How do worry and anxiety spill over into your daily life and affect your behavior? your physical health?

Mine would be #6! I struggle with worry and convince myself that if I did not worry about something, then it would be worse. I feel like my worrying helped make a situation better. Completely UNrealistic, I know... now I turn to prayer. But I do still worry. It affects my behavior because I will withdraw from others and it affects physical health because I will either overeat or not eat at all when I worry too much and I make myself sick.

3. Finish this sentence: Therefore Carolyn, I tell you do not worry about every little thing. I do have a plan.
